Background Information

Dr. Magill-Evans worked as an occupational therapist both in Canada and in Jordan prior to beginning her master's and PhD in Family Studies. Her clinical work resulted in a deep appreciation for the important role of family in the development and functioning of children. She ran social groups for youth with autism for ten years.

Professional Interests

Dr. Magill-Evans is interested in collaborative multidisciplinary research that will make a difference in the lives of children and their families. She is passionate about integrating research results with her teaching to ensure evidence-based, theoretically-driven services. She helps facilitate a campus wide autism research group that includes clinicians and graduate students. She developed a measure of social perception.

Current Research

Dr. Magill-Evans is currently finishing a study evaluating the effects of a home based intervention for fathers of infants born a bit early (later preterm). With a post-doctoral fellow, she is looking at the transition from high school for persons with autism and the role of media activities in their lives. She is part of a team evaluating ways to support teens with complex congenital heart disease as they transition to adult care.
